Hey everyone, it's Terri (Reagan's friend/passenger/whatever who takes a lot of photos, LOL)

The CSU campus ministry I'm a part of wants to hold an auto/bike show to raise money for Relay for Life. I've helped with a similar show back home (Gum Creek, Oxford, GA), so I'm feeling okay... but I'd appreciate any input or advice, particularly about the date.

General info:

PLACE: Edgewood Presbyterian (Corner of University & Macon - where they sell pumpkins every October)

DATE: Any suggestions? I had chosen Apr 14, and since the Commerce show wasn't listed in the folder here I assumed no one was going to it... but I've since seen the thread in another folder. I really need to make a decision to get ads out, but at this point I'm nearly frustrated enough to scrap it and forget Relay altogether this year.

Here are potential dates & what I see as the major competition. Any thoughts?
Mar 17 -->Albany, GA (Motorized Vehicle Show)
Mar 24 -->Macon, GA (Mustang & Ford Show)
Mar 31 -->Reynolds, GA (All Ford Show)
Apr 7 -->Easter Weekend
Apr 14 -->Commerce, GA (Fun Ford Weekend)
Apr 21 -->Columbus, GA (Port Columbus)
Apr 28 -->Edgewood is in Pine Mountain, so I'd lose half the volunteers and entrants.
May 6 -->Relay for Life (too late!)

COST: $10/pre-registration; $15/drive up. T-shirts, lunch, cotton candy, snow cones, Cokes additional.

PRIZES: First 75 get bags & dash plaques. Door prizes (gift certificates to promotional items, but hopefully everyone wins something). 25 trophies, with one overall winner and 24 divided by class.

OTHER NOTES:
*I have a couple of leads on potential sponsors for the trophies & dash plaques, so we wouldn't have to put money out on those. (Anyone used Cody Road trophies, or have other suggestions?)
*Screenprinted, color shirts are cheap through Party City - any other good sources?
*My parents run the cotton candy & snow cones, so that's no worry, no cost.
*The church will actually handle the meal, assuming we include it. Pre-sold tickets, with a small amount to offer for sale on the day of show.
*Advertising will include visits to local car clubs, an ad in Ragtops & Runningboards next month, flyers at relevant businesses & CSU, and through the Presbytery & 9 local PCUSA churches.
*We've extended invitations to two potential judges, but want to have at least three.

Thankfully I mapped out a lot of this last summer when we first considered the idea, but now I'm trying to narrow down the details fast to get this out there.

Thanks for any suggestions!

although it is approaching quickly I would almost say to place the show on March 17th. Iv'e heard alot of people going to the other shows and that would seem to be the slower of the choices. Fun Ford in Commerce seems to be getting a little more publicity in the club this year, the Macon show has been one of our bigger shows over the past couple years, and the Reynolds show is the NMRA event that gave CCS alot of representation so I imagine there will be quite a few members there again this year... Of course the closer to home shows are going to cause a lot of competition.

Make sure you post a bunch of signs and stuff around campus as well, I know there are alot of students there who are big into cars... just get the news out there and try to get as big a hype for it as you can, maybe see what it would take to get an ad on the radio. It looks like you are on a good role!! Lemme know If you need anything my info is on the contact page

Have it the weekend that the local Fox affilliate has theirs as they rip off people by telling them they won awards and they renege on giving the winners their awards!

I hope some people remember that particular car show last year at the civic center that the 'Snake made its' debut, was 'announced' that it came in 'Second Place' in its' class, told me I'd have to wait a couple of weeks for my plaque, and then they didn't give me my award after I waited on it for nearly two months claiming they made a mistake!

Can you say BOYCOTT? I thought you could!

I don't have any sugestion for the date, but we can put up a flyer in the shop to help advertise the show. We could possibly even donate a couple gift cards for prizes. If your interested give me a call at 706-565-0110.

Do you have a website Adrian?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see it. Do you have a small logo we can display on our front page?
Image needs to be smaller than 143pxl wide.

Thanks everyone for the responses!

I'm off tomorrow, so I'm hoping to call around to hash out details and the date, so I can send my ad off to R&R and start passing out flyers and donation requests.

I'll update as soon as I know more.

Terri
