okay, so i have changed my mind on the dumps, as they have the downside of being permanent, to a point, and cannot change them quickly and have to cut off the tips and end up with the dreaded "empty bumper" look on the Bullitt... sooooo, i have decided to go with these:

already have a set from QUITE a few years agp that never got welded onto my old truck, and they should fit just fine into the offroad h-pipe i have on the Bullitt right now, then... all i have to do is crawl under the car, twist off a few butterfly nuts, and VAROOOOM!!! full-on open pipe whenever i want it, and then replate the pipes for road trips to avoid going deaf!!
cool, huh?
so my NEW question would be, who do we have in connection with club (isn't there a CCS-friendly Midas shop in Columbus that gives us discounts?) so i can get these welded into the h-pipe, and what do ya think as to cost? i figure to raise/cut/weld pipes like this should only be 30-45 smacks, right?

Call the 13th St. Midas and ask for John. He does sidework. If you can not get a hold of him give me a call and I will give you his cell. He did my exaust work and I love it!!!
Jeff
Good luck on getting him to return your calls...

so he does good work, but not easy to get to do it? and when you say "does work on the side" you mean after hours at his shop (midas) or more at his house? just want to know what to expect as far as scheduling this work...
also, since you know his style and have had him do work for you, what price range you figure that work to be?
edbo, what exactly do you mean by that? some previous experiences?
thanks to both of you!

Shaun,
Jeff referred me to him so I called him once to see about getting some headers and/or a midpipe installed. He took my contact information and said he'd call me right back, this has been over two months ago so he's never gotten back to me. But he actually did me a favor as I have found a great mechanic for 90% of my work (No AC, No ABS, No Gears) and does it as side work for a fraction of what I'd pay other mechanics in the area. This guy will be installing headers/midpipe for me soon as my seawall project is completed in the next week or two.

Shaun, I have had John do work for me on both the Mach 1 and the little Red V6, he's good. Yes, sometimes he is difficult to get in contact with, but he has a new wife and is a newly wed.
He works 6 days a week at the shop and does do work on the side when time allocates, you know what I mean!!!!!

If somebody asks for prior experience from somebody, and somebody answers with their experience, whether it's good or bad, it's still valid. If I call somebody and they don't call me back I will say that. If I have a good experience with somebody, I will post that. That is the point of asking the boards for their experience.

Chris, like you, I believe exactly in this as it's good to weed out the good from the bad.
I'm not saying he's a bad mechanic because I have nothing to go by except getting 'dissed' after requesting some pricing to get some work done. I don't buy into excuses of "He's got a new wife", or "He's got a new life" or whatever as that's not my problem.
The bottom line is the guy said he would get back to me and he didn't. If your computer was broken and you called me for setting up a repair and I said that I would get back to you, got your number and did not call, how much would you appreciate that? People don't realize the importance of communication these days and with email, cell phones, text messaging and all, we should have no excuses for taking the thirty seconds required to punch 7-10 digits, let someone (or voice mail) answer, and leave a brief 10-15 second communication such as "I cannot do the work now, will call back next week" or "Sorry, I'm busy spanking my monkey, I don't have time." or something of the sort.
So if you have mechanics that work for you, that's great. If you refer him to me, that's even better. But if he disses me, I will let you and the rest of the world know about it as my time is valuable and I like to waste as little of it as possible. Just ask the guys who work at StangNet in Auburn about me.
